Flamenco My Passion

Flamenco is my passion, during my research to create this article I discovered that the information about Flamenco only goes back three generations. Throughout the 70s the traditional Flamenco music started to change with the arrival of Paco De Lucia, he comes from the school of Nino Ricardo. At the beginning of his music career Paco was not well liked in Spain, they detested his style of music, but with time he started to get some recognition for his talent and at the end of his life he was applauded and consider a genius.

My fascination with Flamenco music started when I was seven years old in my native land Peru. One time for Christmas I asked for a transistor radio and after that moment, I realized that I have the freedom to hear the music I liked. Having my own radio in those days open a new door for me and broke some barriers and help me to appreciate music from other parts of the globe without speaking the language.

In the USA in the 50s some musician started to developed some interest for Spanish music; over the last few decades, Flamenco music has gain popularity and had spread all over the world. In the 70s the traditional flamenco music started to change and for the first time Paco de Lucia incorporated the Peruvian cajon and went viral and gave the flamenco music a new dimension.

Nuevo Flamenco (New Flamenco) is very popular now days it derives from the original Flamenco. The New Flamenco has a different twist because it combines other musical styles as jazz, Afro Cuban, Latin, rock, salsa, tango, bossa nova…etc. fused into the Flamenco. Here in the Bay Area we have few Flamenco fusion guitarists, some have performed in my show live. This genre of music is the most requested in the ALA Cristina Show. Now, I am inviting guitarists from other parts of the world to introduce their music in my show, since now is easier to produce long distant shows with international artists.

On the right and left columns check flamenco music of some Bay Area Guitarists and other parts of the world and Flamenco dance.

FYI, with in the next few months, I am going to have a show "Guitar Extravaganza”. In this show I’ll present the Old and New Flamenco – also some renowned guitarist from all over Latin America. If you are a professional guitarist, I am extending an invitation so you can participate in this show extravaganza.

My Friends have Happy New Year 2017!!
