Q: How can I sell my idea?

A: You can't. Unless the idea is being shopped around by a celebrity, screenwriter with a proven track record, or enough money to pay for the film, it needs to be in full script format.

Q: How do I find someone to turn my idea into a script? We can split the profits!

A: You can't. Ideas are a dime a dozen. Writing a script takes a lot of time, effort and determination.

Q: How do I learn how to write a screenplay?

Q: Where do I find books on writing screenplays? Do you have any recommendations?

A: Check with your local library and librarian. Bookstores. Amazon has numerous options including Kindle Unlimited which allows members to view any book in the catalog during the month for one set fee. 

Q: What software should I use?

A: Opinions vary. I recommend using the one that works.

Q: How do I protect my script? Copyright?

A: For US writers, it's important to review the official US Copyright website. For other countries, research details. Do not accept information from random people online (including me.)

Q: Does poor man copyrights work? I can mail my (book, script, etc.) to myself and seal it. That's proof!

A: No, it doesn't work. It's a myth and has no legal value.

Q: Does registering with one of the writer's guilds protect my screenplay? Is it better than a formal copyright?

A: It's not the same as the copyright office. Copyright enforcement requires being able to sue. (US.) That requires a formal copyright which can only be obtained through the copyright office.

Q: How do I sell my script?

A: It's harder than it sounds and requires researching submission options.

Q: How do I know if a company will accept my submission?

A: Check the company's official website. If they have submission guidelines posted, follow them.

Q: Are contests worth it?

A: Opinions vary.

Q: Will an IMBD account help? I've heard it's possible to network, get emails, find contacts, etc.

A: Possibly. Opinions vary. Any information submitted to IMBD requires URL proof, including personal details like birth date. Author bios, on Amazon for example, can be written by self-published authors and presented as "proof." It may or may not work. If a writer is unable to prove personal or professional details, than it's impossible to set-up a profile.

Q: What Internet resources are available free for Author pages and social media?

A: Amazon offers bios for self published writers. Google Sites offers free, easy to build and maintain websites. Facebook Groups are free and take some effort to learn. Facebook Pages are started by paying for advertisements. Twitter. (I'm sure there are others.)

Q: Can I use Wikipedia to promote myself?

A: Read the site rules and requirements. It would be best to have someone else write it. Wikipedia does not accept original research and requires URLs to support information provided. If it does not meet the requirements, the page can be removed.
