FooCamp session

"Fix College"

(This presentation is based on ideas I have expanded on here.)

In June 2012, I led a session at FooCamp called "Fix College". We had a great group of people and an excellent conversation. I started by asking participants some of the things about college they think are broken. Here are my notes:

We also talked about some trends and experiments that are happening now:

I presented some of the ideas I have been thinking about:

1) A microcollege that delivers an 8-semester lock-step curriculum, offering 4 semester per year.

2) A studio workspace for students where they have dedicated space, and instructors bring the class to them.

3) Community engagement and work-life balance.

(More details about these ideas here.)

Participants had a lot of interesting questions and comments. Finally, we talked a bit more about places where experiments are happening now (and a couple of random notes from other parts of the conversation).

Many thanks to the participants, and to Damien, who took these pictures.
