DR. IBRAHIM ALI
Artist, Trainer and Research Guide of Indian Classical Music
I qualified M. A. Music [Vocal] in 1985. In 1986, I became disciple of well known classical vocalist, Goswami Shri Gokulotsavji Maharaj of Indore. Since then, I am receiving guidance in Khayal and Tarana style from him.
I have been awarded Ph. D. in music for my research on the subject ‘Padmabhushan Ustad Amir Khan: Vyaktitwa Evam Kratitwa’ [Padmabhushan Ustad Amir Khan: Life and Work] by Vikram University, Ujjain. Goswamiji is influenced by the style of Ustad Amir Khan. Therefore, I got an opportunity to receive training of Khayal and Tarana stiles on that pattern. In my research work, this training was very much helpful to me in analyzing that style minutely. I am thankful to him for the same. After publication of my research in book form in Hindi, it was published in English by LAP, Germany, and this research work is also available on my web site:
For five years, I worked in Govt. Post Graduate Music College, Ujjain. Since 1993, I am working as Assistant Professor in Music [Vocal] in Govt. Kalidas Girls College, Ujjain.
Vikram University, Ujjain, has appointed me as Supervisor and Research Guide for doctoral thesis in Music.
Besides institutional teaching, I am giving training of KhayalGayaki to my disciples, according to the Gharana tradition. Distant students of music and researchers are also receiving online training and guidance from me via Skype conferencing.
Sound engineering [recording, digital sound editing, processing etc] is my hobby. My special interest is preserving precious recordings in digital form and accepting the challenge to improve their sound quality and removing defects and errors.
President of India conferred me National Award on December 3 2005.
