Huangshan is the most beautiful mountain in China. It is one of the World Heritage sites. Unfortunately the weather was terrible when I was there. I managed to take a few good photos. Not a victory but not a complete loss neither.
I stayed in Tunxi and took a bus to Tangkou to visit Huangshan. Tunxi is a slightly more interesting place to stay than Tangkou. For example, I discovered this nice park.
This bird looked like a duck but certainly did not quack like a duck. It sounded like a midget crow. It is about the size of a quail. If anyone knows the name of this bird, please let me know.
The first day I was on Huangshan, it was foggy, rainy and windy. Not what I wanted.
The rock formations in Huangshan are amazing. The problem is that I could not see them. It was actually the best picture I took on the first day. How sad.
The redeeming value of being there on an icy day is that frozen Hamamelis is a signature sight in Huangshan. BTW I dropped my small camera trying to take this shot. Fortunately my camera is still working.
I went back to Huangshan again the next day. At least it was not raining. I was determined to get some good photos. It was a nice drive from Tunxi to Tangkou.
The Huangshan area is famous for tea. You see a lot of tea farms along the freeway.
Since there was no rain, I could see a bit more on the way up on the cable car the second time.
Once I was on top of the mountain, I realized that the weather was just as sucky as the day before minus the rain.
Cuckoo. I thought I was turning into one.
I felt like I was stepping into a movie set of Frozen.
Finally the fog was blown away for a fraction of a second. I captured this shot in that very narrow window.
Huangshan is beautiful because of the rock formations, the trees and the mist. The mist was a bit much this time. Still beautiful. Just a different kind of beauty.
Fly Over Rock. You gotta hike all the way to the end of the trail to see this. Your visit is not complete without seeing this.
The fog was blown away just enough to let me capture another semi-decent pic.
Ironically the best view of the rocks was on the way down the cable car the second day. This picture gives you some idea of what I expected to see.
