The word “aleatoric” means “by chance.” Although artists have been creating art by using chance methods for centuries, probably the most well-known artists were the Dada artists of the early 20th Century. More recently the musical composer John Cage performed three movements on stage without playing a single note (1952 composition 4'33”).
