Jan,
If applause were appropriate for a library I'd have been clapping. That was
awesome! I really had no idea what you were going to do with the photos and video and as I expected it turned out wonderful. You certainly have an eye for visualization (as evinced in your photography and your sketches), but the way you blended so many different pieces together so that they looked as if they had been related, it just all flowed so well. And the music
(although I only listened to the one piece) actually added a dimension an
emotional texturing that made the experience even more felt. Very
impressive!!! Thanks for sharing.
Cheers,
Dave

Check this out!
I went to see Jan Kather's Aleatoric video project this afternoon at the Steele Memorial Library.
There were three people checking out the audio and video display while the artist answered questions.
Within five minutes there were five more, including me.
Here are my thoughts:
Mesmerizing. Funny. Endearing. Beautiful.
Some of the scenes reminded me of ... home.
Brightly-colored autumn-covered hills.
Vivid battle scenes from a rich historical past.
Lush, verdant pastures.
Precious moments with family.
It was magical.

Jan,
AWWWWW!!!! We'll be out west for all of the showings other than the
Octagon Fair. That's a shame because Hammondsport is the library that
Chapin goes to all the time. And the Octagon Fair date I have a workshop
in Penn Yan from 1 -3.
I'll let folks know around here - some of our friends will certainly be
interested in seeing the project in Hammondsport.

Thanks to all who contributed work, stopped by to see the installation, or wrote to tell me their thoughts about the project!

Jan,
Hello! I'm sorry that it took so long to get back to you. My name and the place (where I lived back then) are all correct as listed in your e-mail. I'm really excited that your project will be shown soon. Can I ever get to see it on-line some day? Ayako

The subject of our pictures are Hot Air Balloon ing of the Horseheads and Elmira area. On my 60th birthday, my husband and friends enjoyed the beautiful view of the Elmira area. It was a very warm summer evening.
We helped inflate the balloon to start out journey from Broad Street Soccer field, Horseheads, NY to St. Mary's Church parking lot on Franklin St. Elmira, NY.
The first picture is preparing to start our journey.
This is a view of the Miracle Mile, showing the Mark Twain Golf Course on the right side of the picture. While floating with the air currents you experience serenity, calmness, and the freedom of being free.

Jan, this is a great project! It's perfect for an aleatoric thinker like me. It's rather synchronous that I have been practicing what i call Gonzo Photography (after Hunter Thompson) for the last few years. I just love the idea of working with the individual to build a collective experience. This is another way to express ourselves at a cooperative level and it's not so much what we submit, but the fact that we DO submit something. I have been certainly encouraging others to join in. It's going to be great!

Image: "For me, often the attraction of the Finger Lakes is what lies above
the landscape. Night or day, I can stand outside, watch the sky and release myself into an energy far beyond measure. It's connection and recovery without the risk of vulnerability and regret."

Ms Kather
I am a resident of Chemung county and would like your evaluation of what you might like to have me submit. As a member of FLUPA, FingerLakes Underwater Preserver Association, I am trying, with others, to document, and maintain the history of our waterways by preserving the wrecks locally. We have many photos and some AVI footage on our web site http://flupa.org . Please take a look at it and let me know of any of the material would be useful to your wonderful art project.

Ok, this has absolutely nothing to do with the twin tiers other than I
wrote it to test out a mic with Garageband when I lived in Horseheads.
(I now live in Elmira.) I think I was sitting on my bedroom floor when
I improvised this jam.. Jason
