Big Shaheen Cabin
Big Shaheen is a historic log cabin built in 1936 and has a main room and two bedrooms. This is a great cabin for two couples. Little Shaheen Cabin is about 200 feet away making this the only cabins in the Tongass Forest which would be suitable for a big family gathering. There is large beach in front of the cabin with small size gravel, a great place to tie up your plane. The cabin sits on a point with Little Shaheen around the corner; the gravel extends around the point. There is also a little bay about a 1000 feet across the cut from Little Shaheen. Between the three potential tie up sites there should always be a safe place for your plane. This Cabin had a major rebuild in 2011. At this time the replaced the foundation, inside walls, windows, front deck, stove, and roof. The Forest Service did a great job and kept the building in the same design and material to the old building except for the stove. They replaced the wood stove with an oil one which does not put out enough heat. Take lots of oil.
