Task

You will analyze information from your research using the Resources section of this WebQuest. You will then use your research to write a grant proposal for the Gates Foundation that:

• describes your nation today

• what needs to be done to make it the country that will lead the other nations of Africa to economic prosperity

• why it is the best candidate for their funding to experience an economic miracle as China did.

This will involve a direct comparison to China and how your country with the Gates’ money can follow China’s path. Thus, you will also research the reasons why China has advanced so much economically the past 15 years. To really sell your proposal, you will also create a video slideshow that promotes your country’s strengths.

You also will be asked one final question by Mr. and Mrs. Gates as they look at the big picture of their efforts. The questions is:

What might be the human, ecological and cultural costs for your nation to experience the “economic miracle” that China has accomplished?
