ANGELL FIELD ANCIENTS FOUNDERS’ EVENT
FINAL update sent 2/20 for event held 2/21
Time reminders. CHANGES are in ITALICS.
NEW: Planters bring a long-handled shovel + plastic bag to put over it.
9:00, assemble at the flagpoles of PAC 10 Plaza. Arrive by 9:30 at the latest, allowing extra time for parking, as many of the nearby Stanford parking lots are torn up. Carpool to Stanford if possible, to ease parking.
9:30-9:40, carpool to the Dish Hill gate, with at least 4 people per car.
10:00-12:00, plant oak trees or just watch others plant.
10:45, Sports Café is open to drop off food before lunch.
12:00-12:10, carpool back to PAC 10 Plaza.
~12:10-12:20, commemorate the bronze plaque.
~12:20, walk, carrying potluck food, ~1/4 mile to the Sports Café.
~12:30- ~2:30, potluck picnic lunch and speeches. Paper plates, cups, napkins and utensils will be provided. We have reserved the Café until 3:00.
Other Reminders and NEW ITEMS:
1. Everyone going to the Dish Hill (whether planting oak trees or just watching) will need to sign a “Release of Liability” from Magic.
2. If planting, bring a shovel if possible. Put a plastic bag around the metal end of the shovel to protect cars from dirt. Long handled shovels are better. There may be as many as 50 people planting (both AFA and non-AFA).
3. CRITICAL ITEM: Every oak tree planter should wear old boots or shoes (which will get VERY dirty). Planters MUST bring a second pair of shoes in a plastic bag to the tree-planting site. After planting, we will all put on clean shoes, put shoes caked with clay in plastic bags, and thus avoid tracking mud into the cars and the Sports Café.
4. Consider wearing an AFA shirt during lunch. Planters may want this to be a second shirt to put on just before lunch, as the first shirt may get muddy or wet.
5. Bring any appropriate food to share with others, keeping mayo and other spoilable items cool. Plates, cup, napkins, and utensils will be provided.
6. Consider contributing a few dollars to offset the $300 rental fee, with the fee including 8 types of fountain drinks plus Peet’s coffee.
7. Bring beer or wine if you want to share or try to hoard (good luck with that). A tub with ice will be provided.
8. Bring photos and other AFA memorabilia to the Café to share.
9. We encourage camera buffs to record all aspects of the event, including tree planting. We’ll find a way later to share digital photos.
10. We’ll provide nametags for people to wear in the Café (so we can pretend we recognize one another) and a list for people to sign (so we can later match names and faces in photos).
11. Questions to Roger Jackman, JackmanR@Gmail.com, 650-493-4695; Stu Harris, stuart.harris@sbcglobal.net,650-888-1859; Jym Clendenin, j@jclen.net, 650-862-1130; or Nat Sterling, nsmks@sonic.net, 650-494-1498.
IF YOU DON’T COME TO THE DISH HILL TO PLANT OAK TREES (or watch planting), PLEASE JOIN THE AFA at ~12:10 at the PAC 10 Plaza or ~12:30 at the Sports Café.
