Read, return, repeat. That is what we hope will happen with ACSD students and their library books. We know that life gets busy, though, and sometimes books get lost or damaged. Here is the policy on library fines (revised in fall 2022).
Overdue Books
If a student's library book goes overdue, library staff will first talk with the student about the book and where it might be. If it does not get returned in a timely manner, library staff will then reach out to the parents/guardians about the overdue book. Messages may be sent via School Messenger email or text, SeeSaw (for K-2), or an email or phone call directly from library staff. Automatic overdue emails will be sent to parents/guardians periodically, as well.
How long do students get to keep books? How many books can they check out? Can they check out more?
Grant - Keep book for 1 week; check out 1 book at a time; no check out if they don't return their previous one or if they owe $10 or more
Lincoln - Keep books for 2 weeks; check out multiple books at a time (however many books they can be responsible for); no check out at two weeks overdue or if they owe $10 or more
JH/HS - Keep books for 3 weeks; check out multiple books at a time (however many books they can be responsible for); no check out at two weeks overdue or if they owe $10 or more
"Even if you don't get to take a book home today, you may still look at and read library books while you are in the library."
At 3 months overdue, a non-refundable fine will be issued for an overdue book: $5 for paperbacks, $10 for hardcovers, or full price for a new* book. This fine will be entered into PowerSchool.
To pay the fine, students can bring payment to the school secretary, library staff, or it can be paid online by going to the school's e-Funds website. If you choose to pay online, please let Mrs. Seddon know so she can confirm payment with Central Office staff.
Damaged Books
If a library book is damaged, please contact library staff. If it can be fixed, then we will fix it and there will be no fine. If it is damaged beyond repair, a fine will be charged: $5 for paperbacks, $10 for hardcovers, or full price for a new* book
Replacement of Books
If a copy of the same title and format (paperback or hardcover) is offered for replacement before the fine is assessed, it may be accepted. Once a fine for an overdue or damaged book is put into PowerSchool or paid for, there will be no refunds.
Please reach out to Mrs. Seddon if you have any questions or concerns.
