Submissions

Submission Guidelines

Both thesis proposals and research papers are limited to 5 pages for content, with any number of additional pages allowed for references. Following acceptance, authors will be allowed 1 additional page of content in order to incorporate suggestions from the reviewers. The papers should fit the following criteria:

  1. Thesis Proposals- may contain previously published work and must include specific research directions. They may also be in the style of a paper that surveys and critiques existing literature and suggests future research directions. Proposals may only have one author, who must be a student. Authors of thesis proposals should provide a CV. The CV should be at most 2 pages long and include your education background, publications and graduation date. (Please submit your CV as "supplementary material" on the submission site)

  2. Research Papers- must describe original completed work or work-in-progress. Since the main purpose of presenting at the workshop is to exchange ideas with other researchers and to receive helpful feedback for further development of the work, papers should clearly indicate directions for future research wherever appropriate. The first author of multi-author papers must be a student, but additional co-authors need not be students. Research Papers are eligible for this workshop only if they have not been presented at any other meeting with publicly available published proceedings. Students who have already presented at an ACL/EACL/NAACL Student Research Workshop may not submit to this track as a first author. These students should instead submit to the main conference or to the Thesis Proposal track.

Note that every student is only allowed to submit one first author paper. You may author papers but since we mentor students and give feedback we request you to only submit one paper.

Pre-Submission Mentoring Program Procedure

Send your paper draft in the PDF format to acl-srw-2015@googlegroups.com by

February 24. Note: pre-submission mentoring is not anonymous; the mentor will not be the same person that will review the final submission. Papers sent to the mentoring program but not submitted via the electronic system (see the instructions below) by March 31, won't be reviewed.

Submission Procedure

Submissions should be made electronically, using the Softconf submission software at https://www.softconf.com/acl2015/SRW/

Submission file must be in PDF format. Please use ACL 2015 style files (LaTeX or Microsoft Word) to prepare your manuscript:

Important: Remove authors information from your manuscripts when submitting them for blind review! Also remove author information from the file attributes (Mircosoft Word may put author information in the file attributes without your knowledge!)

Reviewing Procedure

Reviewing will be double blind, so submission should not contain author information or self-identifying citations.

Papers should not contain references such as "We previously showed...(Smith 2010)" but rather "Smith (2010) previously showed...".

For thesis proposals, references to your own previous work should be anonymized; e.g. you may say "In XXX (2010) we showed....".

Also remove author information from the file attributes (Mircosoft Word may put author information in the file attributes without your knowledge!)
