A Message from our President

Welcome to the University of Florida’s Association for Academic Women!

Since 1974, the Association for Academic Women (AAW) has enjoyed a rich history with extraordinary women in faculty, administrative and professional roles across campus for the purposes of networking and sharing meaningful information beneficial to UF women. The founding pioneers of the University of Florida’s AAW were women instrumental in establishing for UF women the same opportunities for tenure, promotion and advancement to leadership roles that were enjoyed by their male counterparts. Though we have had much progress, gaps continue to exist.

Today, AAW continues and strives to empower UF women for the utmost success in each stage of their careers at the university. You will find UF as privileged to have extraordinary women in meaningful roles and positions across campus performing with stellar results.  AAW endeavors to serve professional women with programming, such as our Women of Influence series, which inspires and connects us one to another; we cover a variety of topics from negotiating salary increases and promotion to retirement talks across the age spectrum and career stages.

Additionally, each year our membership fees support the Madelyn Lockhart Dissertation Fellowship in concert with the AAW Emerging Scholar Program honoring eligible young women who are completing their dissertations in their chosen fields of study.

Complementing our professional programming, AAW events include brown bag informational luncheons with speakers who are accomplished UF leaders, discussing relevant issues, monthly networking lunches to introduce our organization and members to new faces in a social setting, as well as after-work socials to provide excellent networking opportunities. Each of these events provide information and support to professional women on campus, as well as an environment of comradery, mentorship and advocacy.

Please accept this personal invitation to AAW!  We do hope you will join us.
