Terence was born on May 11th 1913 a few weeks prior to his parents marriage, so was originally named Terence Back. Following his parents June 12th wedding at West Ashford Registry Office his birth registration was entered as Terence Charles Chapman.
One of Terence's children provided the following information ...... "Dad left school when he was 14 years old and went into service as a manservant. He joined the army in 1940, and was a member of the 1st Airborne Division. He was shot and taken prisoner of war in Arnheim in 1945. He subsequently escaped and came home. After the war he joined the metropolitan police."

In 1995 Terence Charles, in his 80's, married again following a whirlwind romance with former pub landlady Peg Sturman.
