Pigandi Water System (2014)

After gathering survey data from the Fall 2014 Service trip in Panama, compiled collected measurements and GPS data points to map the land and design a pump and gravity-fed water system to deliver water to the rural homes from a new well via an elevated water tower. Residents in the village were also surveyed door-to-door for information regarding their water needs and expectations for the new system. Following the trip, piping had been laid down from the well to the storage tank, and the next phase was to determine the necessary pump and layout for the gravity-driven lines to the individual homes based on calculations and pipe simulations.

The new water tower was constructed in 2016, followed by the addition of a larger storage tank. Revisions were made to the system to extend it further for 20 more families. Currently, the issue is the pump selected by the community is not sufficient for the extra demand of the system, and a cost-analysis is being reviewed for a replacement.
