I had acquiring an old 1960 Tektronix Type 503 Oscillocsope from the Mechanical Engineering Department, after the university was tossing out (sadly) many older models that were in disuse. The scope was surprisingly functional and well stored, but the LV transformer had complications soon after and the trace became jittery, with voltages fluctuating wildly and some arcing occurring. After working with the many members of the TekScopes forum, I was able to repair the scope over several months by installing a small 12V transformer to power the CRT, followed by replacing some of the dried electrolytics with better modern equivalents. The project also required my restoring an old analog 1950s voltage/ammeter, since it could support measuring 3kV loads.
Overall, the scope is back to being function, but still more work can be done to replace all of the dated components and correct the many calibration issues. For now the scope works well for my purpose - oscilloscope music.
