Dr. Ahmad Agus Setiawan has research passion in Renewable Energy Systems and Applications for Sustainable Development. Realizing Indonesia is an archipelagos country with more than 17,000 islands which many of small & remote islands are lacking of electricity supply, he undertook study focusing on utilizing renewable energy resources to generate electricity. He obtained PhD in Renewable Energy & Power Systems from Curtin University, Australia (2009), MSc in Sustainable Energy Engineering from KTH, Sweden (2002) and BEng in Electrical Engineering from Universitas Gadjah Mada (1999), where he is currently teaching. He is actively involved in the Working Group on Energy Self Sufficient Program for Indonesia within the Institute of Research and Community Services of UGM. Previously, winning a UNESCO & Daimler sponsored Mondialogo Engineering Award 2007, Dr. Setiawan and his students successfully implemented a Solar Water Pumping System for rural area in Yogyakarta. This work draws some other awards: PII Engineering Award 2010 from The Institution of Engineers Indonesia, Australian Alumni Award 2011 for Sustainable Economic and Social Development from Australian Embassy in Indonesia; and recently Energy Globe Award 2012 from an Austrian Foundation. The project is also receiving the Outstanding Flagship Project recognition in the 9th Global Regional Centre of Expertises RCE Conference Okayama, Japan 4 - 7 Nov 2014. He is Energy Globe Ambassador in 2013 and Energy and Innovation of Technology Team Coordinator in Australia Awards Alumni Reference Group ARG 2014 - 2016. Dr. Ahmad Agus Setiawan is the recipient of Habibie Award 2014 in Engineering from The Habibie Center.

Message Pak Rektor UGM tentang "Blue Campus":
"Berikut argumen awal saya utk perkokoh label yg sudah melekat di masy bahwa UGM ad KAMPUS BIRU (novel Pak Ashadi), tetapi dg makna yg baru.
Wisdom Park .... Embung, green park, low polution, zero waste, renewable energy, clean water dll yg sdg kita garap adalah jabaran dari blue campus, kampus yg langitnya biru bersih ....
Blue campus sejalan dg blue economy (yg bukan hanya marine).
Matur nuwun,
Pratikno"
