The LSG is a specialty group of the American Association of Geographers (AAG). To be an official member of LSG, you must first be a member of AAG. The AAG has income-based dues as well as reduced dues for students and postdocs, and their Developing Regions Membership Program, which reduces membership dues to $20 per year.
Membership with LSG allows you to enter our awards and competitions, gives you exclusive access to our Community Boards, and affords additional opportunities for growing your career and dedication to all things landscape. Dues are $10 for regular membership.
Dues are $0.00 for students and members from developing regions.
When renewing your AAG membership, please select "Landscape" under the options for specialty groups.
If you would like to join LSG but you do not need to renew your AAG membership,
first login to your AAG dashboard,
under the section "My Affinity & Specialty Groups" there should be the option to "Add a Group." After clicking this button you will be shown any current specialty groups,
click "continue" and
select Landscape from the list of specialty groups.
If you have difficulty, you may also contact membership@aag.org and explain that you are currently an active AAG member but that you would like to join our group.
Joining the LSG gives you access to a global network of researchers, scholars, and practitioners working in landscapes such as parks and urban greenspaces in London to tropical forests in South America. We view landscape as an inclusive concept and thus incorporate an incredibly inclusive approach to our membership, working with those in agriculture, landscape architecture, landscape ecology, urban development, sustainability science, forestry, and other fields.
Because membership is free for AAG members from developing regions, LSG membership tends to be diverse and dynamic. All members can nominate themselves or others for our Member Spotlight, which serves to connect members with one another and offers a platform for you to discuss your latest projects, initiatives, publications, or anything else landscape-related.
Like all specialty groups, we offer session and panel sponsorship for the AAG annual meeting and are happy to connect members with similar research interests to lead and organize sessions. Our most well-known competition is our annual Photography Competition, a highlight of every AAG meeting with monetary prizes. Students have the opportunity to apply for our Membership & Registration Awards, designed to offer students the opportunity to advance their studies and build professional relationships through the LSG.
Have an idea you'd like to see us incorporate? We're always looking for new ways to add value to LSG membership and are eager to hear from you. Contact one of our Board Members today.
