We often receive questions via tells or mudmails regarding the clan and certain procedures which are not specified on the site. In light of this, we've decided to list some of the most commonly asked questions asked by both members and applicants here below.
Q: How do I advance in rank?
A: The simple answer is, you can't. The ranking system in Sins of Salem is not like that of most other clans. We do not rank by level or fame or activity, or how well you are in the game. We rank by character and clan itself. That is we rank according to which of your characters is your main and which are your alts, and whether or not you are in any other clan. More information about the ranking system can be found on our rank page on the site.
Q: What do I have to do to become a clan elder?
A: The rank of elder is not a priviledge, it is a responsibility. We do not consider the elder position as a reward for good behavior in any way. One must maintain a level of maturity and respect towards other members and players throughout the game, the willingness to help and to accept responsibility for actions that are not only your own, but those of your clan members as well. Keep in mind that the elder is the best representative of the clan, and the actions of the elder best reflects that of the clan even more so than the members. As the elder it is your responsibility to keep the clan a peaceful one and the members happy, but also make sure that the rules are enforced, particularly in regards to external relations with other players. That is to say that if a member is causing trouble outside the clan it is your job to put an end to it without overstepping your bounds, meaning to recognize the line between clan elder and game admin. You cannot cross that line under any circomstances, which can often prove difficult. You must know when to step in and when to hand over the ranes to someone with greater authority than yourself, namely Dentin, and let them handle the situation. This also means that you must be in, at the very least, decent relations with the admin and avatars of the game. Being liked by the members and trusted by the other elders will earn you nothing if you're known to have a bad reputation with Dentin or his team.
Q: Can I be an elder in the clan if I have alts in another clan?
A: Yes, and this is no more or less unlikely than if you were not multiclanning. Being in another clan does not diminish your chances of attaining the rank of Elder in Sins of Salem. It may even be possible that you will be clanned specifically for this reason, especially if you are or were an elder in another clan, given that you are or were good at what you do. In the case of multi-elders you will be advised to differenciate between the two clans as their rules and requirements may differ. This however will earn you some leniency, however briefly, to allow you to get used to the separate environments.
Q: What do I do if I clash with an elder, will I be removed from the clan/will my application be discarded?
A: It depends on the nature of the conflict, and which elder you have such conflict with. It is very ill advised to clash with the clan owner, for instance. Saying that, in the event of conflict the member or applicant can send a mudmail to the clan owner who ranks above all other elders, explaining the turn of events entirely and in detail. If anything is emitted from the account, its credibility will be of course reduced. In the unlikely event that more than one owner is listed in the roster, the mudmail must be sent to the first name which appears in the list, as that is the highest ranking elder of the clan regardless of there being other owners.
We hope that this information has been useful. Should any current or prospective member have any further questions, kindly send a mudmail to the primary elder who manages this page, or contact us directly on the game on our channel Salem, or on twitter at @ClanSinsofsalem.
