BENEFICIARY

Sister to Sister Youth Conference

We are pleased to announce the 2023 Beneficiary will be the Sister to Sister San Mateo County Youth Leadership Conference

Celebrating Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Women of Tomorrow AND we will be hosting a SOCK raffle to support the efforts of the Mayor Of the Tenderloin - who will place all socks into the hands of the unhoused of San Francisco.

Since 1995, Asian American Recovery Services (AARS) has provided a unique experience for middle and high school girls to celebrate Asian American, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander (AANHPI) culture in Santa Clara County, and in March 2023, we brought this experience to North San Mateo County for the very first time. On April 18, 2024 at the new Library and Parks & Recreation Center in South San Francisco, AARS will host our 2nd Annual Sister to Sister San Mateo County Leadership Conference.

This year’s theme is “Ride the Waves.” Paying homage to the four waves of feminism, we have coined the acronym W.A.V.E.S - Women Amplifying Voices to Empower our Sisters. Many young women in the AANHPI community struggle to find their voice and may feel discouraged to actually use it. We want to create a movement of cultivating a sisterhood that affirms them to amplify their voices, take up space, and remain actively engaged and resilient. Waves also specifically honors our Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander community. Pacific Islanders are not rooted in land masses but rather the Ocean, that acts as our main avenue or connection to all neighboring islands. Our particular WAVES are forces to be reckoned with, undeniably massive and powerful, which is why every young AANHPI woman should Ride the Waves with us.
