Question:
What is a GiClee? (pronounced zhee-klay)
Answer:
A type of fine art marked by vibrant colors that have a long life due to the type of "paint" used as well as the type of media used.
This is applied with a very expensive fine art unit.
Normal life of a GiClee is much longer than old photography, and does not suffer the short life of ink jet computer printing.
Images are available on cheap poster paper, photo paper, water color paper, heavy fine art papers, and canvas.
Life expectancy on the cheaper photo papers should give around 100 years with no noticeable fading or color shifting when framed under glass and displayed in normal out of direct sunlight. With the fine art papers this extends to around 200 years. This doesn't mean that they will fall apart at 200 years, but there is no expected change after that long. This far exceeds the life of Photography and blows away cheap ink jet computer prints which have such a sort life expectancy.
The color vibrancy and realism of a GiClee puts this fine art in a class by themselves.
The GiClees are available for sale in 8x10 (or 12), 11x14 (or 16.5), 16x20, and larger sizes. They can be ordered matted or not. They can be framed or not.
There also is a gloss 4X6 photo picture available for just $1.50
Costs are here and change depending on type of media used:
You can add coating the GiClee with UV and scuff protective coatings, mounting the GiClee on various backings, stretching canvas, and other options at additional costs.
I also had many 16X20 images not framed or coated, they were mounted on foam and were hanging at the display.
These can be framed, coated or just hung as I had them.
Cost for these are $50.00.
Above Mat board is high quality with acid Free core and backing, however these do not meet museum quality standards.
GiClees can be "hinged" or mounted with acid free hinging tape.
For Fine Art GiClees, they should have museum quality matting and conservation framing which costs more.
Canvas GiClees can be mounted on acid free foam core, stretched, or gallery wrapped. Price depends on size and image.
Frames can be quality less expensive import, high quality import, less expensive high quality hand made, or various higher quality more expensive larger profile framing. Cost for framing depends on type and size of framing. Conservation framing is much more expensive.
WV State sales tax will be added to all sales.
Shipping is extra and depends on size and framing options.
I use USPS or UPS and use USPS flat rate envelops and boxes if possible for small items.
Shipping tubes are $5.00 or more depending on size.
Also some framed pieces must have special very expensive packing for shipping.
Cost for shipping, packaging and handling is extra.
You can pick it up in Arthur or Petersburg at no shipping cost also.
