Hexagon or Octagon Petal Flowers
Stitch these Polygon Flowers by hand from a single layer of fabric.
Choose an equal sided polygon (excluding triangles, squares, or diamonds) Find a template online or draw one yourself. These sizes yield finished ornaments about 3 or 3.5 inches:
Measurement of each side: 3.75" Hexagon; 2.5" Octagon
Watch this You Tube Video and/or follow the Adobe Acrobat pdf tutorial for step-by-step directions. After you master the technique these are quick to make.
For a crisper ornament you could press the finished petals with an iron. I preferred a puffy 3-d effect so I chose to only finger press the edges. For the center of each flower add either Darice round gold beads and/or a gold sequin star, a cluster of red or white artificial holly berries or a few gold reindeer embellishments. (Holly berries are sold in small bundles with 2 berries per wire or in a large spray with numerous berries wrapped into a large stem. You can easily rip them from the "paper like" wrapping on the large stem.)(To attach each holly berry stem fold the wire in half and slide it into the fold of a different fabric petal and secure with a stitch.)
