Certification

Level 1 Certification

Ready to get started with high power rocketry? Attending a launch, observing, and asking questions is about the best way to start. In the meantime, you can start your education by visiting the NAR (National Association of Rocketry) or TRA (Tripoli Rocketry Association). Level 1 HPR Certification Procedures | National Association of Rocketry (nar.org) or this page Level 1 - Tripoli Rocketry Association will tell you everything you need to get started towards your L1 Certification.

In a nutshell, the certification goes like this:

1. Read the information on the NAR website.

2. Print out the correct HPR application form for the certification level you wish to attempt (Note, there are individual forms for each certification level, so be sure to get the correct form).

3. Coordinate with a local NAR Section or L3CC for certification witnesses to be present at a launch. 4CRA can help you choose an appropriate rocket, rocket motor, and give you advice on building your first high power rocket so that you experience a successful certification flight.

4. Fill out the preflight checklists with the observer(s).

5. Make a successful flight.

6. Complete the post flight information and have the observer(s) sign, date, and put their contact information on the form.

7. Fill in the online form when you can. Note, the form will not allow for incomplete submissions.

8. Upload a copy of the physical certification form (all levels) and test (as applicable for Jr HPR Participation and Level 2 certifications).

9. Check to make sure all the information on the digital form is correct.

10. Receive a pin and updated member card within about 30-45 days after your information is validated.
