OCTOBER 10 - DECEMBER 16
NM Historical Society Grant  (Nov. 10, 2016 deadline)
We will contribute to writing a grant to sustain the work of this project, which will be submitted by the deadline.
The UNM CENTER FOR REGIONAL STUDIES (October 1, 2016 deadline) supports Community Engagement Projects that link UNM resources with the diverse cultures and regions of New Mexico especially with the recovery and preservation of indigenous or local knowledge by way of oral histories, field schools, or acquisition of special collections.
NM Arts: Arts in Social Service (Media arts)
Our Oral History project will focus on African American Community in Farmington. Since your content areas are social studies, this project is an authentic learning opportunity to conduct oral history interviews with members of the African American Community in Farmington.
We have resources available to us in implementing the project:
PVHS senior Quincy Stock (& U.S. History Teacher Cody Dudgeon) will be partnering with us on this project (senior project)
High School Librarians Kyla Johnson and Margie Satin
History Researcher Tim Trotter
Advocate and Farmington memberDiane McCants
We will schedule to meet together with some of the key informants as we develop the project together. We will learn as we go. Being immersed in this authentic community project will help you engage your own students in making historical memorable connections with your own students.
