He had told her about his ex-wife --

that crazy woman who, during their bitter divorce,

accused him of hiding the cattle.

"That is crazy!" she quickly agreed.

Yet...

there was something about the way

he smiled to himself

after he told her,

that made her peek, gingerly,

behind the shower curtains;

and press her ears against

each hallway closet door...
