Prof. Yeh-Ching Chung
Title: UniCloud - An Open Community Cloud Platform for Research and Education
Abstract: UniCloud stands for University Cloud, an open community cloud platform for academia to support cloud education, research, and application development. The system is open to academia in February 2013 and has the following characteristics:
- The system includes all cloud service layers, that is, IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS.
- Free: All the UniCloud services are free for educational purposes
- Open: The entire platform and service APIs are open to public
Bio: Yeh-Ching Chung received a B.S. degree in Information Engineering from Chung Yuan Christian University in 1983, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer and Information Science from Syracuse University in 1988 and 1992, respectively. He joined the Department of Information Engineering at Feng Chia University as an associate professor in 1992 and became a full professor in 1999. From 1998 to 2001, he was the chairman of the department. In 2002, he joined the Department of Computer Science at National Tsing Hua University as a full professor. His research interests include parallel and distributed processing, cluster systems, grid computing, multi-core tool chain design, and multi-core embedded systems. He is a member of the IEEE computer society and ACM.

Abstract: 因應全球經濟環境的變動,多數企業已著手規劃前瞻性的商業策略與IT轉型計畫, 打造「軟體定義的資料中心」,整個基礎架構皆為虛擬化服務,而且完全由軟體自動化管理更是實現雲端運算願景
Bio: 陳學智先生現任VMware公司台灣區總經理,主要負責台灣區策略規劃,以及銷售、通路、服務和市場行銷等重要部門的業務營運和管理。
陳學智先生在商用及消費市場,擁有超過18年的銷售、企業管理及市場行銷等豐富經驗。在加入VMware前,陳學智先生於Novell服務長達14年,擔任Novell台灣、韓國、中國華東暨華中區總經理,負責企業管理及產品、行銷業務,之前亦曾任Novell亞洲區經銷部門與亞太區開發夥伴聯盟部門之高階管理工作,具備深厚的實戰經驗;同時,陳學智先生在Novell亞太區業務發展上貢獻斐然,並連續多年獲得Novell亞太區頂尖表現區域經理人殊榮。
在加入Novell前,陳學智先生擔任過資訊工業策進會資深協理負責領導產品開發與國內外行銷團隊。也因其廣泛的工作經驗以及與產業良好的互動關係,陳學智先生曾於2006至2010年期間應邀出任台灣Linux促進會副會長及會長職務。
陳學智先生擁有美國德州農工大學(Texas A&M University)資訊科學碩士學位。
Dr. George Wang
Title: Cloud Computing in Taiwan
Abstract: Cloud Computing is a new computing model/new business model. It is a major paradigm shift for the IT industry. In many ways, Cloud Computing presents a challenge to the hardware centric IT industry in Taiwan. Our government has put together the ‘Cloud Computing Applications and Industry Development Strategy’ to transform our IT industry to the cloud computing era. In this talk, we will present a summary of the ‘Cloud Computing Applications and Industry Development Strategy’. We will also describe CAFÉ (Cloud Appliance For Enterprise) - the Cloud Computing vision and platform from III to support the government plan to transform the IT industry in Taiwan.
Bio: Dr. George Wang serves as the Senior Advisor to the Chairman, Inventec Corporation, since February 2013. In this capacity, he is helping Inventec Chairman put together a transformation strategy into the Cloud Computing era.
Dr. Wang served as Executive Vice Chairman, Institute for Information Industry (III) from June 2007 to February 2013. At III, Dr. Wang focused on pioneering research and established the Advanced Research Institute and Cloud System Software Institute. Dr. Wang led the III team to conceive the CAFÉ (Cloud Appliance for Enterprise) strategy and developed the CAFÉ platform. He worked with strategic partners to integrate CAFÉ with Cloud hardware, turning hardware ODM/OEM into higher valued Cloud systems business. The III led Taiwan CAFÉ alliance vendors were recognized as the Merit Winner of Global ICT Excellence Awards at WCIT 2012. For his work on CAFÉ, Dr. Wang earned the Key Technology Innovation Award at the Second National Industry Innovation Award event in 2012. Dr. Wang retired from III on February 8th, 2013.
Prior to joining III, Dr. Wang worked at IBM for 29 years. He joined IBM Research Division at the Thomas J Watson Research Center in 1978. He led the IBM Research team in a multi-division effort to carry out research that led to the shipping of transformed IBM mainframes in 1995. Dr. Wang was named to the founding Director of IBM China Research Laboratory in Beijing in July 1995. In January 1999, Dr. Wang conceived and established the IBM China Development Laboratory and became the head of the IBM Research and Development operations in China. Under Dr. Wang’s leadership, the IBM China Research and Development Laboratories grew to a 1,600 people organization upon his returning to US in June 2004. He was Vice President, IBM Systems and Technology Group between July 2004 and April 2007. Dr. Wang has been recognized for his technical accomplishments and has earned IBM's Corporate Award, Outstanding Technical Achievement, Outstanding Contribution, and Outstanding Innovation awards. In 2005, Dr. Wang earned the Asian American Engineer of the Year Award (presented by Chinese Institute of Engineers); as well as the Outstanding 50 Asian American Business Award, in recognition of his outstanding contributions in the establishment of IBM China Research and Development Laboratories. Dr. Wang retired from IBM on May 1st, 2007.
Dr. Wang was born in Tianjin, China. He earned his Ph.D. degree in experimental physics in 1977 and his Masters of Science degree in computer sciences in 1978, both from Columbia University (New York City); and his BS degree in physics from National Taiwan University in 1970.
