“Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen of the Allied Expeditionary Force, you are about to embark upon a great crusade, toward which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. The hopes and prayers of liberty loving people everywhere march with you. In company with our brave Allies and brothers in arms on other fronts, you will bring about the destruction of the German war machine, the elimination of Nazi tyranny over the oppressed peoples of Europe, and security for ourselves in a free world.”

We as Squad Leader players have a unique perspective in appreciating the challenges and accomplishments of the men who fought through D-Day to the eventual liberation of Europe. We can vicariously live through, as much as one can, the actions in our scenarios. The technology of today allows us to open a door to the past and read, see, hear and better understand the experience and history of the GI fighting the war. I wanted to share a few of the scenarios and links in commemoration of those who served.
Strayer’ Strays and The Pouppeville Exit - Lt. Col. Robert Strayer was originally charged with securing the Pouppeville Exit but landed far off course, hence the scenario name. The 501 PIR realized no action was taken to secure the exit and took up the responsibility. “D-Day with the Screaming Eagles” describes 3rd battalions actions at Pouppeville, see the link.
Manoir De La Fiere - The pastoral french country side in the youtube video belies the history of this important cross-roads on June 6, 1944. This and four more scenarios make up “The 82nd in Normandy” by Ted Bleck, see the scenario card for a links to the article and other cards. Gray’s Castle map pointer links to story and flickr of the castle.
Night Drop - was published in the Rogue series and allows you to drop with the 82nd on the Cherbourg Peninsula. Links are as general as the scenario with an overview of the landings and map.
Les Fantomes De La Nuit - covers Pointe du Hoc with a youtube link and interactive site, actually seeing the cliffs causes a sense of respect that no board can duplicate.
Pegasus Bridge - its well covered in Squad Leader with 8 scenarios and many links.
For all of the scenarios and links see the Map of Scenarios on the tourney site. Click on any map marker to see more information.
