Dear Squad Leader Player:
The second quarter of 2015 brought the muddy Spring thaw that bogged down play as we opted for a little sunshine over VSQL time. I had waited weeks for a log only to have my opponent email a picture of his new boat instead of the anticipated file. Sigh, another good man lost to the cold North Atlantic Ocean. I can only hope he has the good sense to christen her USS Squad Leader. Historically it is the slowest quarter of the year with eighteen and fifteen games started for the three months ended June 30, 2015 and 2014, respectively.
We hit two hundred completed game since the start of the tournament, a milestone reached in April and two hundred and fourteen completed as of June 30th. Twenty-four and fifteen games were completed in the second quarter of 2015 and 2014, respectively, a 66% increase over 2014.

After Action Report Night Drop
‘R223 Night Drop’ is a Crescendo of Doom scenario about the 82nd Airborne Division’s drop into Normandy around Sainte-Mère-Église, The U.S. player attempts to avoid dropping in marshes, organize his troops and deny the 1057th Panzergrenadier Regiment and the accompanying 100th Panzer Replacement Battalion free passage. This was one of the many smaller actions that developed into the Allied Breakout in Normandy. SLA Marshal’s Night Drop: The American Airborne Invasion of Normandy provides rich context with many independent stories woven into the larger picture. Bill Soz and I paid tribute to Andrew Cummins with this one. See the full AAR here.
Night of the Panzers, by John Hill
John Hill designed a micro-scale miniatures scenario in which Rotmistrov engages Manstein west of Kharkov on 21, August 1943. Mr. Hill adapted Cross of Iron rules for use in this miniatures scenario which was later adapted for G.I.: Anvil of Victory rules which could, going full circle, be adapted for Cross of Iron rules. Take a look here.
