Players
The year had eighty-three games completed by twenty-five players, including both the Ladder and tournaments. We also added fourteen new players to the roster for a total membership of one hundred and fifty-five players. There are five hundred and ninety-four games recorded and eighty-three players with completed games since inception in 2012.
Matches
There were thirty-four (41.0%) Squad Leader games, thirty-nine (47.0%) Cross of Iron games, six (7.2%) Crescendo of Doom and four G.I.: Anvil of Victory (4.8%) completed during 2020.
Scenarios
There are five hundred and sixty scenarios in the Scenario Archive of which one hundred seventeen have at least one recorded play. A little over half of the scenarios are for G.I.: Anvil of Victory (GIA), however they are the least played in the system. It is really not surprising because most of the GIA players moved on to ASL, worth it just for the better organized rulebook. Still, lots of the other players were happy enough to stick around for the next forty or so years. We should really try to pull some of the GIA scenarios down to Cross of Iron, some look pretty interesting.
Google Analytics
According to Google Analytics, we had 17,000 Pageviews by 2,177 Users during 2020. Even if the numbers are halved to account for bots and junk, that is still a respectable amount of hits.
Thanks to everybody for stopping by for the scenarios, reading the AARs and participating in the Ladder and tournaments.
Google Demographics
We are also a fairly homogeneous group in terms of age and sex. For those of us having trouble reading the fine print these days, the largest age group is 55-64 followed by the 45-54 year olds. Kudos to the 18-44 years olds giving wargaming a shot.
I think the greater part of the site’s 11% of female visitors are males logging in from a female’s account. The wargame room at WBC is pretty much all male and I don’t think I’ve seen but one or two females playing SQL, Panzerblitz or any of the other games. So the eleven percent seems overstated compared with what I've seen at WBC.
Geo location
The top five countries by Users are the United States (1,293), Canada (156), United Kingdom (153) France (101), and Australia (76).
Conclusions
This year we introduced a ‘Crowd Play’ of Hube’s Pocket, a group activity of several games sharing a common scenario. You share the experience of playing a scenario, see fellow players results and opinions, optionally post AARs and access additional resources like related articles and historical information. It is more social and less of a commitment than a tournament, but still offers competitive play like the Ladder. Its positive reception has already justified additional Crowd-plays of the Tractor Works and Sowchos 79, with seven and five games, respectively. Look for more after these finish in May of 2021.
Hopefully, i can add an advanced search feature for the scenario archive. It is started but getting the skill and time necessary to complete this task makes it a slow process. It would be nice to search by publication or turn or side.
Thanks for a good year and i look forward to more play in 2021.
