Jan-May 2019 emails
The board voted to change the monetary awards for lifters and coaches. Payments will no longer be awarded to coaches. Payments will increase for lifters. Meeting the Qualifying Total at the national meet is still a requirement to be awarded payment. American Open Series (only AO finals) are not included for monetary awards. The reason for the change is based from the fact that event coaches are always published by USAW and there isn't a good way to verify if the event coach actually travels. We are hoping the athlete uses the increase in payment to compensate their coach. This changes will start with the 2019 National Youth Championships.
August 12, 2018 -LWC Board Meeting
Present: Joanna Jones, Mark Cannella, Shelly Viets, Stephanie Hohn and Brian Reed
New Weight class Records:
The board decided that a standard will be set. A study was done on the open classes from Jan 2017 through the end of June 2018. The highest lifts per new weight class will become the standard. The exception is for the women’s 49, 55, 59 and 64. The maximums were set by 2 world team members. There will still be the opportunity for current world team members in the LWC to break them. The next highest numbers will be used to set the standard. This same study will be done for Youth, Junior and Masters. Meet results from the AO2 and beyond will be used to break the new standards.
Hall of Fame Requirement Changes:
Hall of fame requirements that were originally set in 1995 were modified. The LWC constitution will be updated.
The age requirements for each of the Hall of Fame categories (Lifter, Lifetime achievement and Lifer/coach) was removed (was 40, 60 and 50).
The minimum points earned to be considered remained.
Points for winning the state meet were added.
For Lifetime achievement “years of service” was renamed to “years of participation” and changed from 25 years to 15 years before someone can be considered.
For the Lifter category a person can be considered if they have One major win or 3 podium finishes at a major meet (AO series does not apply).
Also, Youth, University and U25 is now a major meet not a lesser meet.
Lastly for lifter the mandatory top 10 rank was removed though it can be used for points.
New Recognition Award – The Rising Star Award
Another form of recognition was created. The Rising Star award will be awarded at the state meet for a lifter that has shown progress, inspiration or an accomplishment that proves they are a rising start in the Ohio weightlifting community. The Rising star award for 2018 has been chosen by the board and will be awarded at the state meet. It will be announced then.
State meet starting this year:
Making weight will be enforced like at a National level meet (non-master). If a lifter misses weight they can lift in the meet but as an extra lifter.
The lifter will have until the Sunday before to change weight classes. After that no changes to weight classes may be made.
State meet changes starting in 2019:
Things to consider for 2019 are running two platforms for a few sessions on Saturday such that lifting is done by 5pm on Sunday and to accommodate more than 150 lifters in the meet. Adding a third day was not favored. Other things to consider were having the LWC create a backdrop to can be used it the meet director chooses (if chosen to pay a small fee to help cover the cost of the backdrop).
8% of all registrations will be donated back to the LWC
Periodic updates or progress reports (current start list, state equipment needs etc.) shall be communicated to the LWC board so that the board has the appropriate information to answer questions and as to mentor the meet director.
All Entries shall be done though USAW Webpoint. This allows automatic checking of a lifters USAW membership. (There is a $4 per entry that gets deducted by USAW).
