The restaurant selection nearby is somewhat limited. We generally cook in.
Screech Owl Brewing / Spent Grain Cafe - in nearby Cuzzart, 10-15 min via Mountaindale Road - great food and beer. Check out their Facebook page for specials and very limited hours
Friendsville Public House: Haven't tried. Mixed reviews
Big Sandy Brewing Co.: Basic food. Popular for like music
**Mountain State Brewing Company: 20 min. on way to Deep Creek Lake. This is pretty much where we usually go if we go out. Good wood-fired oven pizza and beer (and rotisserie chicken on Fridays and burritos for lunch) Nice back porch with sunset view. Family friendly. Definitely the place to grab a beer after skiing at Wisp. Directions (if the roads are slippery, take the route through Friendsville because White Rock can be treacherous/closed in the winter)**
Moonshadow Cafe: 20 min. McHenry. Garrett County's best try at farm-to-table cuisine, big bar and music. Good for the area.**
Lucky Dog Cafe: 25 min. Confluence. Our go-to stop when we go biking on the rail trail. Very kid friendly but they also serve booze.
Little Sandy's: 15 min. Bruceton Mills. 24 hour truck stop. Food is fine for a truck stop. Decent breakfast.
Cornicopia Cafe in Grantsville: 25 min.*Deer Park Inn: 40 min. Genuinely good authentic french place in nice historic mansion, but unfortunately kind of far.
Savage River Lodge: 30 min. High end, Good option if you are looking for a high end wilderness lodge meal sort of thing.
Canoe on the Run: 25 min. near Deep Creek Lake. Good breakfast/lunch/coffee. Service is a little slow. Check hours.
Pine Lodge Steakhouse/Saloon: 25 min. near Deep Creek Lake. Saloon is a decent bar dining alternative. Haven't been upstairs.
Cheat Lake: There is a sort-of Hawaiian restaurant/bar there. Good place to watch a game. There is also a decent bar/restaurant at the country club and a "lakehouse" with fried seafood
Nemacolin Woodlands (25min.): "Fancy" resort. Lots of options at all price ranges.
Morgantown: Black Bear Burritos is a good beer/burrito place and the Blue Moose Cafe is a good coffee shop. Yelp anything else.
Ohiopyle: Falls City Pub, Ohiopyle Bakery, etc.
Blackwater area (Davis/Thomas): Purple Fiddle (really good and well known spot for sandwiches beer and bluegrass music), Sirianni's Cafe (Italian/pizza, cool place and a local tradition). Check Yelp for a couple other good alternatives.
Cumberland: Puccini wood-fired pizza right off the highway, if you need a meal travelling to/from.
Arriving from east: There is a surprisingly good grocery store not too far off the highway on the way from the east in Cumberland about 40 minutes from cabin. (Martin's) If you can, get groceries when you are out and about rather than making a separate trip.
Dollar General in Friendsville 10 minutes away has produce in addition to the usual stuff
**Trout's House: Fresh seafood in McHenry at . Great stuff brought in weekly from bay area and fresh steamed crabs. Highly recommended
***Haines Farm in Bruceton Mills (15 min.): Fantastic local meat, some fresh fruit and vegetables and groceries. Our go to.
*Working H Meats: Great fresh local meats and other groceries**
Pine Run gas station off Hazelton exit (10 min): Some groceries and food and very good frozen seafood. On the summer they get freshly cooked whole blue crabs and lump crabmeat in on wednesdays (often sell out by Saturday) that are excellent. Open until 10pm
Marathon gas station in Friendsville: Typical convenience store level of stuff and menu of pizza/sandwiches/breakfast that is reasonably acceptable. Interesting selection of biker gear. Open until 10pm.
Shop N' Save (25 min.) N off exit 7 on I-68. Not as good as Kroger but a little closer
Kroger: (30 min.): Best grocery store around is the Kroger off of Exit 7 in Suncrest Shopping center. It is huge with a decent-sized organic section. There is another one a little closer right off of exit 4 that is 24 hours but it isn't as big.
There is another full sized grocery store in McHenry (25 min.) that isn't bad but somewhat expensive and a Wal-Mart in Oakland (35min.)
Alcohol: McHenry Beverage Shoppe: (25 min.) Very good selection and inexpensive. Also there is a store in Friendsville that has a good burboun selection (mostly because I ask the owner to stock certain stuff). In WV you can buy whatever you want at gas stations I think at whatever time of day except not until noon on Sundays. Nice wine selection at Kroger
There are seasonal fruit and vegetable stands off the Bruceton Mills exit and sometimes Hazelton exit and lots of farmer's markets in the general area. The Oakland one is quite good I hear.
