Welcome to the Ashford Valley News, a page that collects interesting blog posts and game sites that could be worked into your own Ashford Valley Labyrinth Lord game.
1. Everyone can Backstab (Akratic Wizardry Blog) fits quite well into the sword and sorcery genre.
2. Magic User House Rules (The Warlock's Home Brew Blog) has some good info on starting and known spells.
3. Whimsy Cards (originally produced by Lion Rampant for Ars Magica), these 44 cards (which you'll have to make yourself) provide some interesting ways the players and GM can make changes to the game, adding complications and providing solutions to problems.
1. The Bone Minstrels (Old Guard Gaming Accoutrements Blog), a new undead menace that would work great in your adventures.
2. The Black Hand (A Paladin in Citadel Blog), a thieves' guild that's really cool (it would work perfectly in that hive of scum and villainy Sooton)!
3. Scarecrows (Tower of the Archmage Blog), a field just holds a silly scarecrow. What if it was ... alive!?!?!
4. Gallowsgaunt (Tower of the Archmage Blog), another cool undead creation. I figure that the PCs will, at some point, capture a bandit and he'll be hung dead. Then the Necromancer will show up. Who do you think the newly minted Gallowsgaunt go after first? Will the PCs be able to defeat it?
5. The Gravediggers (Old Guard Gaming Accoutrements Blog), they're undead ... and they've got SHOVELS!
6. The Stone Woman (Old Guard Gaming Accoutrements Blog), as a dryad is to a tree, so is a stone woman to a standing stone. And the Ashford Valley has plenty of runestones and standing stones for at least one to be inhabited.
7. Flare Wolf (Old Guard Gaming Accoutrements Blog), a mix between a Hell Hound and a Blink Dog. Trouble with mutts!
8. Golden Bones (Old Guard Gaming Accoutrements Blog), an undead guardian of crypts and treasurehouses.
9. Crypt Crawlers (The Warlock's Home Brew Blog) a creepy monster that works best in the dark.
10. Personalities of the Rainy City I (Superhero Necromancer Blog) some NPCs to throw in your game.
11. Personalities of the Rainy City II (Superhero Necromancer Blog) some more NPCs for your game.
12. Personalities of the Rainy City III (Superhero Necromancer Blog) additional NPCs for your game.
13. Personalities of the Rainy City IV (Superhero Necromancer Blog) even more NPCs for your game.
14. Personalities of the Rainy City V (Superhero Necromancer Blog) lots more NPCs for your game.
15. Personalities of the Rainy City VI (Superhero Necromancer Blog) another set of NPCs for your game.
16. Personalities of the Rainy City VII (Superhero Necromancer Blog) a bunch more NPCs for your game.
17. Personalities of the Rainy City VIII (Superhero Necromancer Blog) too many more NPCs for your game.
18. Personalities of the Rainy City IX (Superhero Necromancer Blog) a few more NPCs for your game.
1. The DelRosso Principle (Githyanki Diaspora Blog), advice to set your game to 11!
2. Confessions of a Dungeon Master (The Delve Blog), advice from the Blue Box D&D editor, J. Eric Holmes, originally published in a 1980 issue of Psychology Today magazine.
3. Roleplaying Tips, advice on GMing.
4. S. John Ross' Big List of RPG Plots, a classic on a wide variety of plots.
5. Some paper minis (some free, some not) (Jeff's Gameblog).
1. Efreeti Beer (Dungeons and Digressions Blog), some cool brews that will add some spice to your game.
2. Octopus Robe (Ancient Vaults & Eldritch Secrets Blog), not quite perfect for the setting but it's so cool that I had to include it. Plus there are plenty of bodies of water around that this may be of use.
3. The Necromancer's Ring (Ancient Vaults & Eldritch Secrets Blog), on the other hand, fits perfectly in the Ashford Valley, as a quest for the PCs to find and destroy before it falls in the Necromancer's clutches.
4. Manticore Hide Robe (Ancient Vaults & Eldritch Secrets Blog), another neat magic item that could be used by an (soon to be defeated) enemy of the PCs.
5. 100 Books (Beyond the Black Gate Blog), everyone needs a list of good books.
6. One Orc's Bucket List (The Rusty Battle Axe Blog), a find that will lead to more adventure (including letting an orc's mother know he loved her).
1. Golden Age Comic Book Stories Blog, check out the pics on this one.
1. Festung Konigstein (Konigstein Fortress), a castle near Dresden. Good pics and maps to check out.
2. Eilean Donan, a castle in Scotland that has appeared in several films. Includes a virtual tour.
3. The Tower of London, that place in England with the Ravens, where Henry VIII had his wives and enemies executed and where Richard III did away with the Princes in the Tower.
4. The Lost Fort, a blog that has pictures of castles.
