Within a cylindrical tunnel, the MRI scanner exerts a powerful magnetic field around the patient, causing all of the body's atoms to align in the same way. The image of the component under examination is displayed on the monitor once the computer has processed the atomic signal. Additionally, MRI can be utilised to distinguish between normal and pathological soft tissue types. The brain is utilised for functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to identify specific brain regions that are involved in speech and memory. The patient will be asked to complete various duties during the FMRI, such as reciting a pledge of loyalty for non-Muslims and a prayer for Muslims.
How people prepare for an MRI procedure?
1) Eat/Drink
You need to eat and drink before MRI Exam. There are some specialty MRI exam that require certain restrictions
2) Clothing
you will remove all clothing, including underwear and lock up all personal belonging.
3) What to Ecpect
Imaging takes place inside of a large. you need lie perfectly still for quality images. Due to the MRI machine's loud noise, earplugs are required and will be provided.
4) Allergy
Some MRI exams require IV contrast. If you have had an allergic reaction to MRI contrast, contact your ordering physician to obtain the recommended prescription
5) Anti-Anxiety Medication
You must bring your prescription on the day of your appointment. Please note that you will need someone to drive you home.
6) Strong Magnetic Environment
you must inform your doctor prior to the appointment if you have any metal in your body. Detailed information will be needed, such as the type and location, to determine your eligibility for MRI. If you have metal in your body that was not disclosed before your appointment, your study may be delayed, rescheduled or canceled upon your arrival until more information can be obtained.
What Happens during an MRI procedure?
Protocols while in the MRI machine such as:
Asked to remove clothing and any accessories on the body that may interfere with the procedure
If the patient wants to have the procedure done with contrast, an IV line will be started in the hand or arm for the injection, while if taken by mouth, the patient will usually be given contrast to swallow.
The patient will lie on a scanning table that slides into the large circular opening of the scanning machine and pillows and straps are used to prevent movement during the procedure.
The MRI technician will see the results of the scanner through a different room and the speaker in the scanner will allow the MRI technician to communicate and listen to the patient's conversation. They will constantly monitor the patient because they are worried if the patient has a problem during the procedure.
Not only that, the patient is also given earplugs to avoid hearing the sound from the scanner. So a clicking sound will sound during scanning if a magnetic field is created and radio wave pulses are sent from the scanner.
Once the procedure is complete, the table will slide out of the scanner and the patient will be taken out of the MRI machine.
What Happens after an MRI procedure?
In order to prevent disorientation after the procedure, the patient should slowly get off the scanner table. If the patient takes any sedatives prior to the surgery, they will not be allowed to drive while the sedative is still in their system, and they may need to rest until it leaves their body. In the event that contrast dye is utilised during the procedure and the patient has adverse symptoms after returning home, such as swelling, itching, or trouble breathing, they should consult the closest hospital right once.
No special care is required after the MRI scan as the patient can continue with diet fund other activities as usual unless the doctor treating the patient advises differently. Doctors may give more advice to their patients because they know the side effects that will befall the patient after the procedure.
