People who live in urban areas are very exposed to air pollution that has many fine particles. This complex mixture includes organic and inorganic particles, such as dust, pollen, soot, liquid droplets of pollution from development dust, vehicle smoke. These particles vary greatly in size, composition and origin. Therefore, we conducted research on the chemical composition contained in these particles in the location of a rapidly developing urban area, which is the city of Kota Konabalu, Sabah, which has become the main focus of this project.
Besides that, being exposed to fine particles such as pm10, pm2.5 and pm1.0 has a very bad effect on the human respiratory system. The human respiratory system is very sensitive to the content of these fine particles. These particles have a dangerous chemical composition and affect the respiratory system. Diseases such as cough, shortness of breath and asthma are among the diseases that can have a negative impact on the health of the people of Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, especially urban areas that are rapidly developing and vehicle fumes.
