The aim of the game is to win against the opponent through the few means that declare the winner, winning this game championship shows brute strength and stamina. The game of Kokowa was played in ancient African times in order to please women and earn the right to marriage by showing their capability in defending the women from threats.
Rule 1: Play Area
The sport must be played on a circular sandy surface with a diameter of 10 meters.
Only the competing players and referees are allowed into the circular area.
The circle must be demarked with visible barriers which do not harm the players.
Rule 2: Catagories
There shall be five/ten categories with distinct weight classifications. A player is allowed to participate only in one category for which he or she has been duly registered and accredited. The categories are A or B grouping.
Rule 3: Dress
Only green and white pants which have been authorized by the referee can be worn for the match.
Only country/state/team colours can be worn.
Rule 4: Match Starting
Contestants are spaced out looking at each other.
The referee blows the whistle to start the match.
Rule 5: Duration
Three rounds of three minutes shall make up the match with an interval of one minute between each round.
A player can do any of the following to win against his opponent:-
By lifting up the opponent off the ground while standing firm on his feet and knocking the opponent down.
By snatching an opponent’s leg or thigh and falling him down.
By dodging the opponent, thereby leading to his complete fall or his hand(s) touching the ground to make a point.
By throwing his opponent down.
By diving and grappling/collecting an opponent’s leg, thigh and raising him up and falling him down.
By flinging his leg to clear an opponent off the ground.
By hooking/gripping an opponent from a standing position to submission.
3-4 minutes of jogging
Basic Stretches & Rotations (Head, Arm, Wrist, Leg, Waist, etc)
Skipping (3x10 seconds with 1-minute rest in between them)
Block Starts (50m) - 4 or 5.
The most common wrestling injuries are not self-induced but are caused by the opponent, like concussions and cuts. Due to this there is little more one can do about issues like this, if any injury is sustained contact a medical professional immediately.
1) Play on a soft surface like a mattress.
2) Follow the rules and do warm-ups to prevent self-induced injuries.
3) Ensure access to a hospital in case it is required.
