New Release
July 16, 2001
CIS Corporation and Sony Corporation have agreed to establish a joint venture, GENCIS Consulting Inc., for the purpose of conducting consulting business. The new company is scheduled to be incorporated on July 23rd of this year and begin operations on August 1st.
The new company will develop a new "integrated consulting business for management and IT strategies" in preparation for the full arrival of the broadband and mobile era. The traditional consulting industry has tended to be biased towards either management consulting or system consulting. The new company will provide the most effective and high-value-added consulting services by fusing at a high level both the management strategy as the original "purpose" of the company and the IT strategy as the "means" of achieving it.
The evolution of "open digital networks," symbolized by the recent broadband, has had an impact that completely overturns the paradigm of corporate management. The new company will propose management methods and business models that allow companies to utilize this change as a "great opportunity," and at the same time provide truly effective know-how on the application and practice of information technology to realize it.
Sony, under the management team led by Chairman and CEO Nobuyuki Idei, sees its mission as providing optimal services and solutions to X's customers in anticipation of the arrival of a full-fledged broadband network society. Meanwhile, since its establishment in 1988, CIS, under the leadership of its founder, President and CEO Osamu Todaka, has advocated for itself as a "Global IT Evangelist" (evangelizing the world's most advanced IT methodology to the front lines of business innovation in Japan), and has experienced numerous projects in the field of IT consulting.
Sony, which promotes business innovation that realizes speed and uniqueness, has long been aware of and highly valued CIS's IT consulting capabilities and experience. By investing in the new company, which will be managed by CIS, Sony expects to provide high-quality integrated consulting services not only to Sony but also to Sony itself. The new company will combine the ambition and wisdom of Sony and CIS, both of which originated in Japan, and will utilize the resources and know-how of both companies to develop a consulting business that can disseminate ideas from Japan to the world.
For the time being, we plan to carry out the following four consulting services.
"Strategy Consulting" related to corporate strategies, business strategies, organizational strategies, and alliance/capital strategies for the new era.
"Method Consulting" related to performance evaluation/QC methods, corporate governance systems, corporate branding/IR, etc.
"Business Incubation Consulting" related to the creation of business models and business practices that are truly applicable in the market, from small Internet companies to major companies in existing industries.
"IT Consulting" related to digital and Internet strategies, implementation technologies, and knowledge education to achieve the above items with maximum cost performance.
CIS Corporation. will be primarily responsible for the operation of the new company and the expansion of its business. CIS Co., Ltd. intends to promote the new company's business, provide the necessary human resources and know-how for that purpose, and provide its accumulated customer base and network in the IT industry.
Osamu Todaka, CEO of Gensis Consulting Inc. [CEO of CIS Corporation]
The name of the new company reflects our desire to propose a new way of doing consulting work. The initial "GEN" is of Latin origin and means "the origin of things" or "to make known." It has been derived into modern words such as GENE (genetics), GENOME (genome), GENERATE (to create), GENERATION, and GENESIS. The suffix "CIS" condenses the value that the new company should provide and abbreviates "Corporate Intelligence & Strategy," while expressing the meaning of sharing the aspirations of CIS.
We believe that the new company, which mainly provides consulting from the perspective of management and business strategy, and CIS, which focuses on IT strategy and practice, will be able to demonstrate great synergy from various aspects.
In addition, with the cooperation of Sony, we will provide high-quality consulting services, such as business models, business and IT methods, and corporate governance methods that can be used by Japanese companies as well as companies in Asia, Europe, and the United States.
