My name is Christine Sundberg and I am the Media Specialist for the Siren School District. Checkout Policy:

Ø  PreK and Kindergarten may check out 1 book at a time for two weeks.  Students are encouraged to select from the primary section of the library, but are not required to.

Ø  1st and 2nd graders may check out 2 books at a time for two weeks.  One of those books is encouraged to be from the primary section of the library, the other is student choice..

Ø  3rd through 5th graders may check out 3 books at a time for two weeks.  Extra books can be checked out for research projects if needed.

Ø  6th through 12th grade may check out 6 books at a time for three weeks.

Ø  Books may be renewed if they are still needed/wanted.

Ø  Overdue lists are sent out bi-weekly to the homeroom teachers as reminders. There are no fines for overdue books, but the student may not be able to check out any new books until an extremely overdue book is returned.

Ø  Borrowing books from the school library is a stepping stone to learning proper public library behavior and responsibility.  We strive to teach our students that when books are checked out from any library, he/she is expected to be responsible for returning the material in good condition and in a timely manner.

Lost or Damaged Library Materials Policy:

Ø There are several ways by which a lost or damaged book can be cleared from an account.  The student may pay for the book, replace it with a book of comparable value from home, bring in a food donation for Ruby's Pantry, or help in the library to work off the cost of the book.  If a book is damaged or lost due to extreme circumstances,  please call the library to discuss the situation.

Ø If a damaged book can be repaired adequately enough that it can stay in circulation, there will be no charge. If a book is damaged to the extent that it can no longer be circulated, the original cost will be charged.  All damage done by water or pets is considered not repairable due to safety issues.

Ø If a book which has been paid for is found and returned in the same school year, monies will be refunded.  If a lost book is found over the summer and returned promptly at the beginning of the next school year, monies will be refunded.  Refunds will not be given if the book is returned more than a year after payment.
