Sioux Central offers a wide variety of courses for our high school students. We offer courses in core subjects such as Math, English, Science, and Social Sciences as well as electives such as Family & Consumer Sciences, Art, Agriculture, Industrial Technology, Business, Computer Science, Foreign Language, Band, and Choir. Sioux Central students need 52 credits to graduate, including 8 English credits, 6 Math credits, 6 Science credits, and 6 Social Science credits. The remaining 26 credits are considered electives. Required courses include English I, English II, Speech, Physical Science, Biology, World History, US History, US Government, Child Development, and Young Adult Living.
May Term courses are mandatory for 9th-11th grade students. Freshman and Sophomores will attend a 5 day class and can earn 0.3 credits per May Term. Juniors will take a 5 day internship where they learn hands on skills and will also earn 0.3 credits. Students will take 3 May Term credits, at 0.3 credits each, for a total of 1 credit by the end of Junior year. Once the May Term courses for the 2021-2022 are finalized, I will provide a May Term catalog on this page.
College level courses are available to high school students. Some courses are taught at Sioux Central while others take place either online or at off-campus locations including Storm Lake High School, Methodist Manor Retirement Community (Storm Lake), and the Northwest Career Academy in Laurens. Online courses are available to 9th-12th grade students, while on and off campus classes are available to Juniors and Seniors only.
