Math

We use a workshop approach for teaching math. This allows students some choice when learning their math skills. Guided Math is broken down into three sections. Students will rotate through defined stations - math with the teacher, math by themselves, and math with a partner or group. Math class will

begin with a short lesson over the topic being taught. I will then break the concept down into smaller chunks during Math with Teacher. Since it is small group, I have to ability to work very closely with the student while he/she is learning, and able to clear up misconceptions very quickly. Every day students will spend a rotation practicing the concepts being taught. Math by self will be individualized, addressing the students' specific needs. Work completed here will be graded daily. To promote mastery and extend learning, students engage in math with a partner or group. This rotation will include examples of real world math, problem solving tasks, games, and drills.
