Summer Learning Academy
Frequently Asked Questions & Answers
Q: What grade levels is the SLA program for?
A: Students entering grades 1-5 for the next school year.
Q: What happens if my child cannot attend all the days?
A: The program is designed for students to attend the full ten days. It is difficult for both the staff and students when students miss multiple days. We do not alter the price based on the number of days your child attends. It is best to plan vacations around these dates in order for the program to have the greatest impact on your child’s learning.
Q: What are the transportation options for students living in Hartford?
A: There is a bus to and from Hartford. CREC will contact families about pick-up locations and time in late May or early June. Parents/Guardians can also provide their own transportation to/from the Summer Learning Academy. For specific questions, you can call 860-524-4077 or email transportationsolutions@crec.org.
Q: What are the transportation options for students living in Simsbury?
A: There are only two bus stop locations in Simsbury. One is at Tariffville School and the other is at Latimer Lane School. Parents/Guardians can also provide their own transportation to/from the Summer Learning Academy.
Q: How do I know what time the bus will be picking up or dropping off?
A: Specific information regarding pick up and drop off times will be provided closer to the start date of the Summer Learning Academy. The Summer Learning Academy office will communicate bus times, along with a transportation form that must be completed before the start of the Summer Learning Academy. Approximate drop off and pick up times: Latimer Lane School 8:05 a.m. /12:40 p.m. Tariffville School 7:50 a.m. /12:50 p.m.

A: Please contact Stefany Reardon at sla@simsburyschools.net (860)-408-6141
Q: How will I receive confirmation of my child's registration for the Summer Learning Academy?
A: After you complete the registration form using the QR code from the flyer, you will receive an email confirming your registration. This does take a little time, so if you haven’t heard back within two weeks of registering, please email us at sla@simsburyschools.net.
Q: How are the children assigned to classes and teachers?
A: Children are grouped by grade level and will get assigned a group name (Red Rabbits, Orange Owls, Green Geckos, Blue Bears, and Purple Penguins) and a teacher.
Q: When will I know who my child’s teacher will be?
A: An email from your child’s Summer Learning Academy teacher will be sent out the week before the Summer Learning Academy begins. The teacher will share the name of their group, what to send with your child, and a little bit about themselves.
Q: What do I do if my child is going to be absent?
A: The SLA Office must be notified of all absences. Please call the Summer Learning Academy (860-408-6141) or email sla@simsburyschools.net directly. Classroom teachers are busy teaching and aren't always able to communicate absences to the office.
Q: What is the drop-off process like?
A: Parents must park and walk their child to the blacktop area. Each teacher has a sign with their group name, making it easy to locate. For safety reasons, please do not drop your child off until the gate opens and the teachers are visible.
Q: What is the pick-up process like?
A: The gate will be opened after the closing ceremony each day. Once the gate is opened, please check your child out with their teacher.
