Translation Tip Using Google Meet- from Maggie Seidel
Nancy Forsberg shared a great idea in our EP meeting on Friday about the use of Google Meet for students that need translation support in the classroom. She suggested that the student start a Google Meet on their chromebook with a round "Puck" speaker plugged in (video can be turned off). Turn on the closed captions and select their native language under Settings - Captions. This would then allow the voice of the teacher to be translated on the screen for the student as a possible support for instruction.
I tried this yesterday and it seemed to work pretty well. While I am sure it is not perfect, it would potentially offer a scaffold that could be helpful.
I know there are languages that are not available yet, but as you can see in the image below Google has a few more languages in Beta which is really encouraging that more options are on the way!
