About Us

At Simsbury High School, FIRST Robotics Team 3464 “Sim-City” is an after school club for 9th to 12th graders. Students work in a challenging environment to collectively design a functioning robot each year. Students get exposure to the STEM fields and advanced topics that prepare them for opportunities later in life.

The mission of FIRST, (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), as told by its founder Dean Kamen is to “Inspire young people to be science and technology leaders, by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) skills, that inspire innovation, and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.” The practice of “gracious professionalism”, created by Woodie Flowers, is at the core of the organization with teams forming alliances in the competitions.

In our rookie season in 2011, Sim-City was named Connecticut Regional Rookie All Stars, which qualified the team to attend the Championship in St. Louis, where it was named Division Highest Rookie Seed-Galileo.  Since then we've made it to the Championship in 2015 and 2017.  Hopefully we'll make it again this season!

Our team has grown from 25 students in our first year, to 30 to 40 students per year since then.
