In order to ensure consistent entrance procedures, each district in Connecticut must ask the same three questions on the Home Language Survey. The three questions are:
What is the primary language spoken in the home, regardless of the language spoken by the student?
What is the language most often spoken by the student?
What is the language the student first acquired?
If one or more responses to these questions indicate a language other than English, the student must be assessed with an English language proficiency screener to determine English Learner status.
More information about the LAS Links Assessment is available here.
Exiting the Program
To no longer qualify for the program, students must score:
An overall 4 out of 5 or higher on the LAS Links Assessment.
A 4 or a 5 on BOTH the reading and writing subtests.
