Yearbook
Students who request to be in yearbook must:
Fill out the Google Request Form.
Earn all A and B grades (3s and 4s for incoming 6th graders) on their most recent report card.
Received all Satisfactory (S) and Outstanding (O) on their most recent report card.
Students will be given a design assignment. The top designs and those who follow directions will be invited to be in the class. This assignment must be completed by April 10th.

Peer Mentor
Earned all A and B grades (3s and 4s for incoming 6th graders) on their most recent report card.
Received all Satisfactory (S) and Outstanding (O) on their most recent report card.
Demonstrates a willingness to assist and support others.
Completed the attached Student Support Application form.

Mock Trial
Fill out the Google Request Form
Form must be submitted using student SVUSD log-in.
Students interested in mock trial will be sent an email in April with the tryout process.
Tryouts will take place the week of May 11th. Students must attend and try out to participate in the class.
Final rosters will be solidified when the process is complete, usually the week of Memorial Weekend.

Leadership
General Qualifications for Leadership
6th, 7th or 8th grade student
Grade point average of 2.75 or above on all report cards
No D’s or F’s on all report cards
No N’s or U’s in citizenship or effort on all report cards
Excellent attendance and tardy records
Willingness to commit time in and out of school for activities
Participate in all spirit days, activities, dances, assemblies, etc.
Obey all school rules and receive no referrals for any offense
Be able to set an excellent example to other Valley View students by being a positive influence
If you are interested in applying to be in the Leadership class and you meet all of the above qualifications, please complete the following requirements:
Obtain parental consent
Complete Leadership application and essay questions
Teacher recommendation(s): one from each current teacher

Advanced Choir
Students selected for the choir will undergo an audition process that consists of: Singing a major scale on solfege, pitch matching, singing row row row your boat in cannon.
There will be a teacher selection/audition process: students should talk to Mr. Cihigoyenetche before February 20th in order to be considered for the ensemble.
If Mr. C has not heard them sing, they will need to schedule a time to allow him to hear if they can match pitch, sing back simple patterns, and assess vocal tone.
Students already enrolled in Mixed Chorus will have an in class "audition" with Mr. C to ensure they obtained the skills needed for Vocal Ensemble
Students who may need a little more time to develop vocal skills are welcome back (or for the first time) to Mixed Chorus.
**For 7th and 8th graders.
Concert Band
Speak with Ms. Aoyama regarding audition process!
Students in beginning band will have an in-class playing test that will count as an audition (will be completed by May 15th). Audition will consist of playing the Concert Bb scale and an exercise in the book (TBD). If a student scores an A or higher, they will be selected for Concert Band. If a student scores a B or lower, it will be based on teacher discretion.
Students currently in Concert Band will also do an in-class playing test (material TBD). If a student scores an A or higher, they will stay in Concert Band. If a student scores a B or lower, they will be recommended to select another elective.
**For 7th and 8th graders.
Concert Orchestra

If a student scores an A or higher on both scales, students will be selected for Concert Strings. If a student scores a B or lower, it will be based on teacher discretion.
Students currently in Concert Strings will also do an in-class playing test (material TBD). If a student scores an A or higher, they will stay in Concert Strings. If a student scores a B or lower, they will be recommended to select another elective.
