Mrs. Speidel

Thank you for visiting my website! You will fine information about the courses I teach at SVHS, the Medical Health Careers Pathway and our SVHS HOSA Chapter.

About Mrs. Speidel:

Hello everyone! My name is Alisa Speidel and I am a science teacher at Simi Valley High School. I started teaching in 2005 and joined our wonderful SVHS faculty in 2006. When I was offered the job at SVHS it was like a dream come true to be able to teach in the same town that I grew up in (and still live in) and to be teaching at the high school I graduated from. I have taught a variety of different science courses (Biology, Environmental Science, Earth Science and Anatomy & Physiology) at every level (from General to AP) as well as a CTE course (Medical Terminology). I am very excited to be your teacher this year and to get to know more about each one of you over the course of the year.

Education & Career

As I previously mentioned, I am a graduate of Simi Valley High and grew up in the Texas Tract (having attended Belwood & Big Springs Elementary schools and Valley View Junior High). After graduating high school I opted to save a ton of money and gave up my spot at UCSB to get my first two years of undergrad. out of the way at Moopark College (focusing on biology and environmental studies). From there I transferred to CSUN (as I was in the process of getting a job at Amgen) where I studied and graduated with my Bachelors in Biology. From there I took several years off of school as I was working at Amgen and later on a supplement company. I realized at that time that working in a lab or consumer affairs wasn't quite my calling. I knew from a young age I wanted to work with children or with medicine. So I started taking courses to become an educator to teach science. I could work with children and hope to instill a love for biology and medicine in them. In addition to my teacher preparation program to obtain my teaching credential, I took numerous courses over the years in other science fields. Once I obtained my teaching credential I continued to take more courses and professional development and obtained my National Board Certification for Teaching and CTE Credential.

My Family

I met my husband when I was a senior in high school and we married several years later. While I was pursuing my teaching credential we had our three children. My oldest is currently a senior in high school at Santa Susana and my other two children (TWINS!) are currently juniors at SVHS.

What I Do in my Spare Time!

When I'm not running my children to one of their various sporting events or taking them some place, I do enjoy being able to relax a read a good book. As a family we love to go camping and ride ATVs & Dirt Bikes out in the dessert or dunes. I enjoy going to the movies or going out to eat (sushi is my favorite) with my friends and family. I just enjoy most being with my family and friends

Random Facts (Many may not know some of these about me)

I won a photo contest for our local newspaper when I was 12 years old (against all non-professional photographers of any age). I actually hate pubic speaking (who'd have thought a teacher might have a fear of speaking in front of people...I'm fine now speaking in front of students but get very anxious before speaking in front of large crowds still). I took Anatomy in the same classroom that you are currently in and got to teach with several teachers I had as a student on campus.
