This Jazz Ensemble meets 4th period and is comprised of students who are proficient or advanced on their instrument, have room in their schedule and are interested in learning jazz concepts, styles, and improvisation. In this class, students develop knowledge and skill in ensemble balance, tone production, improvisation, sight-reading, jazz theory and jazz history as it pertains to the music that is being prepared and performed. A wide variety of styles are studied and emphasis is placed on improvisation and repertoire. Membership is by teacher approval. 154 Jazz is a yearlong class and performs at concerts and public events. This band may also perform at local jazz festivals. This is an extra enrichment course and should be taken in addition to a concert ensemble.
