Mantras of Mahatma
Rationale: Since 2010, Silver Oaks has been contextualising and contemporising Gandhian principles to the younger generations. School coined the term, Mantras of Mahatma for 5 of the Gandhian principles and motivating acorns to build their character through mantras. When they are part of a performance assessment report, they may acquire more focus and importance.
Gandhiji's Swaraj
In his book, ‘Hind Swaraj’, he calls upon people of India to work towards a future that is full of honesty and courage at a personal level, peace and prosperity at the national level.
A national renaissance
A nation full of vigour
Countrymen with self-respect
A nation whose citizens are truthful
People who are non-violent
and people with values and respect.
Swaraj to Gandhiji meant more than political independence.
The path to Swaraj is through self-control and fearlessness.
He meant self-control by individuals, groups and societies.
As an individual one should have control over his senses and the instincts.
A person who is free will be fearless.
The one who is fearless cannot be made a slave, for his soul can never be made captive.
Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high!
How do you feel "Swaraj" in you?
Gandhiii's Swades
Gandhi's vision of a free India was not a nation-state, but a confederation of self-governing, self-reliant self-sufficient people living in village communities, deriving their right livelihood from the products of their homesteads.
"Swadeshi does not necessarily mean rejecting foreign goods merely because they are of foreign origin. A true votary of swadeshi would never harbor any ill will towards foreigners"
For him swades, was for everyone to use their hands to support themselves and find a way to sustain their living instead of waiting for someone to come and help them.
How 'swades' are you?
Swadharma our Soul duty
Swadharma is that soul duty of individuals which transcends beyond the day to day duties.
In the pursuits of livelihood and illusions, of materialistic life, listening to the soul call and responding to self-duty is swadharma.
"Our swadharmas are all interlinked.
Our duty is to simply help better the life and wellbeing of the people and the community around us,
to be good people, nonviolent people, and loving people.
The soul force of humans should unite globally for a greater good."
My life is my message. “My life is an indivisible whole, and all my activities run into one another. My life is my message”
Congruence in thoughts, words and actions:
"What Gandhi thinks, what he feels, what he says, and what he does are all the same. He was not only congruent within himself, he was also congruent with the principles he stood for. Not only did he have roots, he had a taproot that plunged deep into the reservoir of timeless principles that govern life."

Satyagraha the Power of Truth
It is a practical extension of ahimsa and love; it means standing firmly behind one's ideals, but without hatred.
Satyagraha is more than a political tool of resistance.
It is a holistic approach towards life, and the two ideals - truth and moral courage should be the values.
On a personal front it involves a life committed to truth, chastity, non-attachment and hard-work. On the political front, Satyagraha involves use of non-violent measures to stop the opponent, and ideally to convert him rather than to coerce him into submission.
A Satyagrahi will make the evil-doers see the evil that they are indulging into, and realize their injustice.
Are you a Satyagrahi ?
Sarvodaya Spiritual Pole Star of Mahatma
Gandhiji:
I do not believe that an individual may gain spiritually and those who surround him suffer. I believe in Advaita in the essential unity of man and, for that matter, of all that life's. Therefore, I believe that if one man gains spiritually, the whole world gains with him and, if one man falls, the whole world falls to that extent.
Personal goals and prosperity should also include public welfare and development.
