NOTE: It is good to start the empty FLEx database early in the process, even though there will be a lot more steps before you actually import into it. As you go through the remaining steps, you will learn more about what needs to be in it. You will make adjustments and make a new backup of the empty database. Expect it to be an iterative process. A general view of the process might look like:
Create the empty database
Make your best guess for the Writing systems, formatting, custom fields that will be needed. Apply these in the empty database. After each significant step, make a new backup that consists of the empty database plus whichever of these steps you've applied.
Do some of steps in the import process.
When you discover something new that needs to be in the empty database, restore your most recent backup of the empty database (with the most customizations applies), and add it. Make a new empty backup, with a suitable comment (e.g., "AddedMorePOS" or "AddedCustFlds"). This will be your new "most recent backup of the empty database".
Repeat steps 3 and 4 until you are almost ready to try an import.
Restore your "most recent backup of the empty database". Do a trial import. Look at the results. Make a note of what should have been different in the empty database, and anything else you need to do.
If you want to keep a copy of this trial import:
Make a backup of it.
Restore that backup to a different name.
Now you can have that "different name" project open at the same time as your "customized empty project"
Again restore the most recent version of the empty database. Allow this to overwrite your import--this will delete the imported version. Make the needed changes in this restored empty version. Make another backup of this newly revised empty database, with a suitable comment. This will become your "most recent backup of the empty database".
Do any further steps that are needed to the SFM file.
Repeat steps 6-9 as needed.
The content covered in this section will include:

that are needed, with appropriate writing systems.
Be sure you have done the Assess the List Fields step.
Add items to existing lists
Create any custom lists
(Import a handful of tricky entries? Try configuring the dictionary? See if anything else is needed?)
Can be done later as well.
