Training Opportunities

Faith and Farming Workshop in Asia

When? Monday 5 February 2024 – 9 February 2024 (5 days)

Where? ECHO Asia Farm and Seed Bank, Chiang Mai, Thailand.

How? The training event will be facilitated in English, adopting a participatory style. Feedback to the whole group will be in English, but participants are encouraged to use whichever languages they are most comfortable with when working in smaller groups. The event will be hosted at the ECHO Asia Farm and Seed Bank, and so will involve significant time outside around the farm seeing ideas and practice first hand.

Faith and Farming Training:

The goal of Faith and Farming is twofold: to help those working on the land to engage with all of the Bible in the language that they use as they work on their farms or with their animals. We also want to help them make a connection between their faith in God and their day-to-day work so that their whole life is impacted for God and reflecting His greatness in everything they do and say.

The founders of the program, Yunana Malgwi and Katharine Norton, in conjunction with the SIL Creation Care Task Force are offering a two-week course in two different countries:

Kenya, 31 October - 11 November 2022

Senegal, 28 November - 9 December 2022

Language of instruction:   English with interpretation in French.  The Workbook will also be available in Portuguese.

Cost of the training course: Each Operational Unit (OU)  will be responsible for contributing $500 per participan towards the costs of the training. The rest (international travel, board and lodging and course materials and tuition fees) will be covered by the course budget.

Invitees: We are inviting two participants per country where SIL works in Africa. (Where an OU comprises more than one country each country may have 2 representatives.)

Expectations following the training

Following the training we will support the participants in an online community of practice as they seek to spread the word and conduct Faith and Farming workshops in the countries where they work.  We would hope that as a minimum in the first year this would consist of :

two initial 3-day Faith and Farming workshops to two language groups in their country of service plus two follow-up workshops to those same groups It may be helpful for OUs to make some provision for this is their budgets. To register your interest please fill this form.
