The Asian Symposium on Emulsion Polymerization and Functional Polymeric Microspheres (ASEPFPM) originated from the collaboration of leading polymer colloid researchers in Asia. The main objective is to stimulate and urge researchers to work diligently throughout the period to present their findings, seek advice, exchange knowledge, and engage in discussions. Young researchers, mid-career researchers, and students benefit from direct assistance and guidance from highly experienced senior researchers, leading to significant advancements in research.
The symposium was established in 1996, inaugurating its first meeting at Zhejiang University, China. The inaugural event was co-chaired by the late Prof. Zuren Pan and Prof. Mamoru Nomura. Following a hiatus of several years, ASEPFPM 2 convened in Beijing in 2007, thanks to the efforts of Prof. Guanghui Ma from the Institute of Process Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Prof. Bo-Geng Li from Zhejiang University. In 2009, ASEPFPM 3 took place on Jeju Island, South Korea, hosted by Prof. Jung Hyun Kim of Yonsei University. Subsequent symposiums included ASEPFPM 4, hosted by Prof. Pauline Pei Li at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2011, and ASEPFPM 5 in Suzhou, China, hosted by Prof. Guanghui Ma in 2015. Most recently, ASEPFPM 6, held from March 7-10, 2018, was graciously chaired by Prof. Hidetaka Tobita of the University of Fukui, Japan. The esteemed Honorable Chairperson of this symposium is the late Prof. Mamoru Nomura, a pioneer in the kinetics of emulsion polymerization.
It was suggested back in 2018 by Prof. Masayoshi Okubo of Kobe University and Prof. Chee-Cheong Ho from University Tunku Abdul Rahman, the founders of ASEPFPM, that ASEPFPM 7 be hosted in Thailand in 2024 (date decided after the COVID-19 pandemic). Prof. Pramuan Tangboriboonrat of Mahidol University and Prof. Pakorn Opaprakasit from Sirindhorn International Institute of Technology (SIIT), Thammasat University, act respectively as honorable chairperson and chairman of ASEPFPM 7. With kind support from the sponsors and researchers from several universities/organizations, this symposium, co-organized by the Materials Research Society of Thailand (MRS-Thailand), Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi, National Nanotechnology Center, and Chiang Mai University, takes place from June 20-22, 2024, at the Kantary Hills Hotel, Chiang Mai, Thailand
On behalf of the ASEPFPM 7 steering committee, it is our great honor to warmly welcome all participants to the 7th Asian Symposium on Emulsion Polymerization and Functional Polymeric Microspheres (ASEPFPM 7). We are delighted to host this symposium for the first time in Thailand, continuing the successful history of the symposium series.
With approximately 150 researchers from more than 30 diverse institutes, ASEPFPM 7 aims to offer a distinctive platform for advancing discussions surrounding polymeric microspheres. Beyond this, we envision this gathering to serve as a catalyst for profound learning experiences for emerging talents, nurturing their growth, and facilitating interactions with esteemed researchers. Through a close-knit environment, we anticipate the generation of novel ideas and inspiration, fostering a dynamic exchange of knowledge and insights.
Beyond the enriching scientific program, participants will have the extraordinary opportunity to immerse themselves in the diverse cultural tapestry of Chiang Mai. Known for its stunning temples, vibrant night markets, and breathtaking natural scenery, Chiang Mai promises an enriching experience that goes beyond academia. Whether you’re exploring ancient historical sites, savoring local delicacies, or enjoying the warm hospitality of its people, the city offers a delightful backdrop for ASEPFPM 7, making your visit both academically and personally rewarding.
We extend my heartfelt gratitude to the co-organizers and sponsors for their invaluable contributions. Special thanks go to all members of the steering committee whose hard work and dedication over several months have brought us to this point and made this symposium possible. Finally, I would like to express my appreciation to all participants, both local and international, for supporting this event by sharing your knowledge and experiences. We wish you all a rewarding and enjoyable stay in Chiang Mai during ASEPFPM 7.
Warm Regards,
Prof. Dr. Pramuan Tangboriboonrat
Honorable Chairperson
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pakorn Opaprakasit
Chairperson of ASEPFPM 7 Steering Committee
